The Desert

Welcome Back to Environment Kids! This week we are talking about the desert! You might think that the desert is bland and does't provide anything, but really it provides more than you think. It gives us medicine, water and even provides shelter for animals. 

                                                                 Medecine

            Clearly, the desert must provide some form of medicine or else this category wouldn't exist.  Anyway... three of the most popular medicines that come from the desert are Aloe Vera (to treat burns), the Desert Willow (for pain),  and Agave (an antibiotic). These medicines can keep people out of pain and discomfort. Even I have used one of these medicines. (Post in the comments if you have used one!). That's all for medicine.

         Deserts take up about a third of the worlds land. That is like having a pop-it with one hundred... bubbles? What are those? If you know post it in the comments below! Anyhow, pop 33 of the little bubbles. Thats how much land that deserts take up. Crazy, right?

                                                                           Animals 

    The desert is also home to many animals but watch out! Most of them are poisoned like the Gila Monster, or the Thorny Devil. Although some of them are cute the picture below is a picture of a Sand Cat. SO CUTE!!!

Tornadoes

                  Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in this weeks post! As you may have heard last week in Ohio we had  a tornado. So I thought that this week I would talk about tornadoes. We will talk about how they are made, how much destruction they cause and how dangerous they are.                              Tornadoes are formed from powerful thunderstorms, particularly those known as supercells. These thunderstorms develop when warm, humid air from the ground rises and meets cooler, drier air in the atmosphere. This collision creates instability and can lead to the formation of a rotating updraft, known as a mesocyclone.
